Sin embargo s\u00f3lo su dise\u00f1o data de la \u00e9poca medieval, ya que su apariencia actual, con casas renacentistas y barrocas, es el resultado del florecimiento del comercio de pescado del siglo XVI. El paisaje natural alrededor de la ciudad ha sido transformado progresivamente por la intervenci\u00f3n humana desde mediados del siglo XIV. Las tierras pantanosas han dejado una densa red de m\u00e1s de 500 estanques, agrupados en 16 sistemas acu\u00e1ticos, hoy en d\u00eda es un para\u00edso resplandeciente y poblado por especies raras de plantas y animales. El m\u00e1s grande de los estanques se encuentra a las afueras de la ciudad y est\u00e1 vinculado al nombre de la familia Rosenberg, los tradicionales gobernantes del burgo medieval.
