Structura aceasta, clar vizibil\u0103 \u00een fotografia aerian\u0103, are leg\u0103tur\u0103 cu procesul \u00eendep\u0103rtat de formare a ora\u0219ului. Zece secole \u00een urm\u0103, traseul de azi al Stradun era un canal ce separa vechea colonie greco-roman\u0103 Ragusa, aflat\u0103 pe o insul\u0103, de a\u0219ezarea slavilor de pe continent, Dubrva. \u00cen secolul al XI-lea, canalul e colmatat, cele dou\u0103 comunit\u0103\u021bi se unesc, de\u0219i rivalitatea \u0219i dispre\u021bul reciproc nu vor \u00eenceta nicic\u00e2nd. Un secol mai t\u00e2rziu, ele se afl\u0103 \u00een interiorul acelora\u0219i ziduri. Urm\u00e2nd schema clasic\u0103 a procesului de <em>synoecism<\/em>, pia\u021ba principal\u0103 se contureaz\u0103 la punctul de contact geografic al spa\u021biilor celor dou\u0103 comunit\u0103\u021bi. A\u0219a s-a n\u0103scut Trg Lu\u017ea \u0219i aici aveau s\u0103 fie construite de-a lungul istoriei cele mai importante cl\u0103diri: catedrala, statuia lui Orlando, Palatul Rectorului, Palatul Sponza, Turnul cu ceas, f\u00e2nt\u00e2na mic\u0103 a lui Onufrie. Strada f\u00e2nt\u00e2nii une\u0219te pia\u021ba Lu\u017ea de a doua pia\u021b\u0103 ca importan\u021b\u0103 a cet\u0103\u021bii, Gunduli\u0107eva Poljana, mult mai t\u00e2rzie, construit\u0103 dup\u0103 cutremurul din 1667.
