Pe la 1450, pe latura de nord a pie\u021bei e construit Pa\u00e7o dos Estaus, pe locul unde ast\u0103zi se afl\u0103 cl\u0103direa teatrului. Palatul e ini\u021bial destinat g\u0103zduirii demnitarilor str\u0103ini. Devine apoi sediu al Inchizi\u021biei, iar Rossio a fost , de-a lungul timpului, scen\u0103 a execu\u021biilor publice ordonate de aceasta.\u00a0\u00a0\u00cenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219area actual\u0103 se datoreaz\u0103 \u00een cea mai mare parte reconstruc\u021bei planificate de Marchizul de Pombal, dup\u0103 cutremurul din 1755, coordonat\u0103 de arhitec\u021bii Eug\u00e9nio dos Santos \u0219i Carlos Mardel.\u00a0\u00a0Splendidul pavaj, un mozaic tipic portughez, dateaz\u0103 din secolul al XIX-lea.
