Split&#8217;teki meydanlar\u0131n en ilgin\u00e7 ve en eskisi, Trg Peristil&#8217;tir ve yerel halk taraf\u0131ndan yerin tarihi kalbi olarak say\u0131lmaktad\u0131r. Meydan\u0131n tarihi, olduk\u00e7a \u00f6zeldir. Ba\u015flarda meydan, 305 y\u0131l\u0131nda Roma \u0130mparatoru Diocletian i\u00e7in in\u015fa edilen, 300 metrekarelik devasa bir alan\u0131 olan saray\u0131n i\u00e7 avlusuydu. Asl\u0131nda, eski Split kentin yar\u0131s\u0131 saray\u0131n surlar\u0131 i\u00e7inde yer almaktad\u0131r ve g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fcze kadar en iyi korunmu\u015f Roma saray\u0131d\u0131r. Romal\u0131lar onu terk ettikten sonra, Slavlardan korunmak amac\u0131yla Salona sakinleri duvarlar aras\u0131na yerle\u015fip eski saray\u0131 \u015fehre d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcrene kadar y\u00fczy\u0131llarca terkedilmi\u015f \u015fekilde kalm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.
